CYMS, YOWICAN Seek Stronger Partnership for Youth Peace, Development

The Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) and the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) have pledged to strengthen collaboration on youth mobilisation, peacebuilding, inclusion and national development.

The commitment was made on Friday, September 25, 2026, when the CYMS Director-General, Chief Obinna Nwaka, received a delegation of YOWICAN led by its National Chairman, Ven. Evang. Ademola Daniel Arowolo, in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the CYMS Media Officer, Hosea Parah, Nwaka urged YOWICAN to key into relevant policies and programmes of the Federal Government, stressing that youth-focused organisations have an important role to play in promoting peace, unity and sustainable national development.

He assured the delegation of CYMS’s readiness to work closely with YOWICAN, while calling on the Christian youth body to take the Peace Accord to the grassroots, particularly through its structures at the zonal level.

Nwaka said sustainable peace could not be achieved without deliberate engagement with young people at the community level, where they could be mobilised to promote tolerance, peaceful coexistence and responsible participation in national affairs.

He emphasised the need for youth organisations to create platforms that would enable young Nigerians to contribute positively to peacebuilding and development rather than remain on the margins of national decision-making.

The CYMS Director-General also spoke on his commitment to Christian service and community development, noting that his involvement in church activities had provided him with opportunities to develop leadership, mobilisation and service-oriented experience.

Nwaka disclosed that he currently serves as Chairman of a Harvest Committee, Adviser to an Anglican Lord Bishop and a member of the Parish Church Council (PCC) of his church.

He also serves as the FCT Chairman of Soul Winners under the spiritual leadership of Cardinal James Odumbaku, MFR.

Responding, the YOWICAN National Chairman, Ven. Evang. Ademola Daniel Arowolo, commended CYMS for its activities and efforts towards youth mobilisation and national development.

Arowolo called for deeper collaboration between the two organisations and urged CYMS to increase the inclusion of YOWICAN in its programmes and activities.

He said stronger cooperation between youth-focused organisations would create greater opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding, development and national unity.

The meeting was attended by other CYMS officials, including the Director of Contacts and Mobilisation, Hon. Kelechi Ugwumba; Director of Logistics, Mr Adeyemi Qudus Boluwaji; and Office Assistant, Ms Clever Waka.

The engagement ended with a renewed commitment by both organisations to strengthen partnership, expand grassroots mobilisation and promote greater youth participation in initiatives aimed at advancing peace and development across Nigeria.
