The Director-General of the Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS), Chief Obinna Nwaka, has called on Nigerian youths to leverage Federal Government programmes and youth engagement platforms to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and national development.
Nwaka made the call on Saturday while attending the 2026 Abuja Comic Art Convention as a special guest. The event was organised by Creative Art Studio Ltd.
The convention, themed “The Comic Industry: Becoming a Key Contributor to the Nigerian Creative Economy,” highlighted the growing potential of the creative industry to generate employment, promote entrepreneurship and contribute to Nigeria’s economic diversification.
The CYMS chief urged young Nigerians to take advantage of government initiatives, including the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), to acquire relevant skills, access opportunities and advance their personal and professional development.
He also encouraged youths to actively participate in the ongoing National Youth Confab 2026, describing it as an important platform for exchanging ideas, articulating their concerns and offering practical recommendations on policies and programmes that affect their future.
According to Nwaka, young people should move beyond merely seeking government assistance and embrace a more active role in providing ideas, innovations and solutions to the country’s developmental challenges.
He stressed that constructive engagement between youths and government was essential to ensuring that policies and programmes reflected the aspirations and needs of young Nigerians.
Nwaka who holds the traditional title of Omenanwata 1 of Ezihe further urged participants in the creative industry, particularly comic artists and young innovators, to recognise the economic value of their talents and explore opportunities to transform their creativity into sustainable businesses.
He noted that the creative sector could serve as a viable avenue for job creation, wealth generation and economic growth if young people were equipped with the right skills and entrepreneurial mindset.
The CYMS director-general’s participation in the convention underscored the organisation’s commitment to youth mobilisation, sensitisation and the promotion of opportunities that empower young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to national development.
