The Adashe Women Employment Society has made significant strides in empowering vulnerable women in Nigeria, successfully providing over 100 widows and orphans with skill development training and constructing 100 homes as part of its ongoing mission to uplift women across the country. With plans to expand its reach to all 36 states, the organization remains dedicated to supporting widows, orphans, and women in need.
At the closing ceremony of a two-day intensive employment training program in Kaduna, Hon. Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, Director General of the National Center for Women Development (NCWD), delivered a powerful message on the importance of mutual respect between men and women. Drawing from both Islamic and Christian teachings, Dr. Bashir emphasized that women should honor men as their guides and protectors. She further encouraged women, particularly widows, to remain humble and seek guidance from men, regardless of their circumstances.
Dr. Bashir stated, “Even as a widow, you still have to respect and have a guardian,” underlining the importance of respect in fostering unity and collaboration for the benefit of society.
Dr. Umma Adamu Sani, the founder of the Adashe Women Employment Society, reaffirmed her commitment to the organization’s mission. Known as Zinariyan Gabasawan Zazzau, Dr. Sani stressed the importance of the skills gained through the training in empowering women to achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency. The initiative, which aims to reach women across all 36 states in Nigeria, seeks to create long-term solutions to improve the livelihoods of its beneficiaries.
The initiative has garnered significant support from Family Homes Fund, a key partner in the social housing project. This partnership is seen as a vital step in improving the quality of life for vulnerable women across the nation. The two-day training covered a range of practical skills, including urban farming, tailoring, information and communication technology (ICT), cosmetology, arts and crafts, spice making, and shoe and bag production.
Hon. Bulus Audu, Special Adviser to the Governor of Kaduna State on Land Council, voiced the government’s support for the project, stating that additional land would be made available to the Adashe Women Employment Society for further home construction. He also encouraged the organization to extend its reach to local governments and praised the positive impact the initiative has had on the community.
The event culminated in the presentation of certificates to participants, along with starter packs to help them implement their newly acquired skills. Many of the women expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to gain financial independence and support their families, promising to make the most of their training.
The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the mother of the National Women Development Center, the Commissioner of Youth Sports Development, the Commissioner of Agriculture, and various government officials. The event highlighted the importance of unity, respect, and collaboration in empowering women to create a brighter future.
