On Friday, the Adashe Women Employment Society, founded by Dr. Umma Adamu Sani, inaugurated a skill acquisition training program aimed at empowering over 100 women, including widows, orphans, and refugees, at an event held at Area House in Kaduna. This initiative was organized in partnership with the Family Homes Fund.
The extensive training program offers participants a diverse range of practical skills such as urban farming, tailoring, information and communication technology (ICT), cosmetology, arts and crafts, spice making, and the production of shoes and bags. Dr. Sani, affectionately known as Zinariyan Gabasawan Zazzau, highlighted the transformative potential of these skills in enabling women to achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency.
During her inspiring speech, Dr. Umma shared her personal journey that began in 2019 with a simple dream, which has now blossomed into a successful reality. She emphasized the inherent strength and potential of every woman, inspiring the audience with her words.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Dr. Umma identified three crucial elements for success: faith, determination, and resilience. She encouraged the women to remain prayerful, cultivate a “can-do” spirit, and recognize that achieving success often requires going above and beyond. Dr. Umma noted that women are natural multitaskers, adept at balancing numerous responsibilities with poise and strength.
Her message also highlighted the importance of perseverance in overcoming challenges, as she shared her journey through numerous obstacles, including closed doors, before attaining her current status. Through her determination, she has established a platform that allows women to grow, learn, and empower each other.
Dr. Umma concluded her address by urging participants to fully engage with the two-day training program. Although brief, she asserted that the knowledge and skills acquired could profoundly impact their lives if they approach it with an open mind and dedication.
Her message was clear: women possess immense power, and with the right mindset, they can accomplish anything they aspire to.
Hon. Bulus Audu, the Councilor to the Governor of the Kaduna State Land Council, also addressed the participants, encouraging them to embrace the opportunity presented by the program. “This is a valuable chance that can truly change your lives,” he remarked.
In his speech, Hon. Audu provided updates on the housing project initiated by the Adashe Women Employment Society, revealing that it is now 80% complete.
A significant highlight of the event was the awarding of life memberships to individuals who have played key roles in supporting the society’s mission. Dr. Sani expressed her intention to extend the program to all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, focusing on aiding widows and orphans nationwide.
The primary aim of the Adashe Women Employment Society is to empower widows and orphans through skill development initiatives, fostering self-reliance. In pursuit of this mission, the society has secured 6.5 hectares of land in Liga Chukun for agricultural development.
The event concluded with a vibrant celebratory dance, with participants expressing their gratitude to Dr. Sani and all who contributed to the program’s success. This initiative represents a significant advancement in the society’s ongoing efforts to uplift vulnerable women and equip them with the skills necessary to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Dignitaries from the Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) in attendance included Chief Obinna Nwaka, Director General, Mr. Adeyemi Qudus Boluwaji, Director Logistics, Hajia Aisha Baiyee Ibrahim, Director Finance and Mallam Shamsuddeen Haruna, Director; Planning and Strategy.
